Academic AI researchers have largely steered clear of the vast minefields of language interpretation, perhaps in part due to a perceived historical failure to deliver on promises, even in much more limited domains.
Independent researchers have an unfair advantage: we don't have to get it right all the time. Yet, contrary to many beliefs, it IS possible to be right ENOUGH of the time, particularly in the "chat for entertainment" field, because there ARE NO right answers.
