The Loebner is a competition enacting the Turing Test. Founded by Hugh Loebner, it is an annual competition in which AI programs with a text chat interface attempt to fool of panel of judges that they are 'as human, or more human' than the real thing.
The Loebner Prize 2005 event took place in New York on September 15th, and more information is available here.
A Bronze Medal and $3,000 was awarded to our AI jabberwacky, in the guise of the character George - the 'most human program'.
In 2006 our Bot Joan won the prize, and will compete again this year.
A Silver Medal and $25,000 will be awarded if a machine fools half or more of the judges.
A Gold Medal and $100,000 will be when the same can be achieved with the program receiving and interpreting audio-visual input.
